Estimate
What this account has used
One act, recorded as three streams. Each carries the same three readings: the lifetime total, what that total is comparable to, and how the latest month compares with the one before it. That last figure is identical on all three cards, and that is not a fault — carbon and water are derived from energy by fixed published factors, so the three always move together.
Usage over time
The three streams on one shared time axis, so a period reads across all three at once. Grouped by month, the trace still draws every single day and rules where each month begins.
The three lanes are congruent by construction. Energy is the physical quantity; carbon and water are derived from it by the fixed published factors in the derivation below, so the shapes have to match. Drawing them together shows that rather than hiding it — what changes between lanes is the scale and the unit, never the shape.
What is still outstanding
Emitted minus verified removal. Prevention credits and unverified purchases are recorded below the line, where they belong.
Below the line
Recorded, not settled. Both are real purchases; neither settles a removal debt.
Dollars, kept separately from the tonnes
Overall prices every gram emitted at the removal rate. Contributed is every dollar given — offset purchases and donations alike, counted 1:1, with no attempt to convert a donation into tonnes. Owed is the difference, and it is never clamped at zero.
Where it came from, and what is reported apart
Operational CO2e by model family
Reported separately
Embodied CO2e is the amortised hardware share, reported separately and never folded into operational. API value is what this work would have cost at list price, not money spent.
Receipts & books
Every offset purchase and every donation, with the receipt attached.
Everything a tax year needs, in one place: who paid, what was bought, what it cost, and the proof. Each purchase carries the SHA-256 of its receipt as recorded at filing time, the registry retirement ID where one was issued, and the receipt itself as a download built from the stored bytes — no server, no link to rot. Each payer keeps separate books.
For an accountant-ready CSV, one file per payer with a totals row, run scripts/offset-export.sh --tax-year YYYY (add --payer NAME to narrow it). The export records; it does not give tax advice — classify donation-versus-expense with your CPA.

Seven destinations, and what each one actually does
Grouped by what a gift does to the balance above, because that is the only grouping this page needs. Every claim below is data, not copy: it lives in data/giving-shortlist.json with the research document each sentence came from recorded alongside it. Where the honest carbon verdict is unfavourable, it is printed rather than smoothed over.
Derived, not measured
Every figure on this page is derived from stored token counts by a published factor. Nothing is measured. Anthropic publishes no per-query energy data, so the honest description of all of it is order-of-magnitude, roughly ±50%. Trends and relative comparisons are meaningful; absolute values are indicative.
How these are made — derived, not measured
Fuller derivations, the uncertainty bands per model family, and the cross-check gate against an independent estimator are in METHODOLOGY.md.
